Making sense of a non sense

September 1, 2011

People have tried to make sense out of life. Some tried to find out the purpose of life, some try to figure out how small things fit in a bigger picture. Life is much more complex to resolve and there is no single version or single solution. Sometime we learn and then try to unlearn things and that is the mystery of life.

Self : When we are born, we are much free to feel connected with rest of the world. But slowly we start perceiving ourself based on others perceptions. This gives rise to “self” which start disconnecting us from the rest of the world. This self is also in a constant change. It feels liberating when you dissolve your “self” by helping someone, feeling pain of someone, or even while dancing, singing or any other activity which help you to escape from your ‘self”.

Right and wrong: We are so accustomed to feel good about being right. It is mostly nurtured from the childhood to be right all the time. Our brain is also used to this attitude. Also it is difficult to figure out the actual truth as everybody has their version of “truth”. Most of the time if someone does not agree with us, we think either he is crazy, does not have enough information or plain stupid. And other guy is also assuming the same thing. Start accepting that you might be wrong.

Randomness in life : We normally try to be deterministic in life. This is the only way our brain works. brain expects our hand or any body movement to control 100% of time and not 80% or 30% of time. But events in life are more random than we thought. We try to attach rules for success, but there may not be 100% complete recipe for being successful. One should enjoy the probabilities of life as it comes. Try to see the picture in terms of whole life and not for a day or a week or month.

Events of life:It is difficult to analyse the effect of non existed event in past. A single event cannot exist in vacuum and everything else remains constant. Even a small event give rise to totally different path of life which is difficult to comprehend. Flapping a butterfly wing in USA can change the weather pattern in Australia. In chaos, a small change can have a major impact in a time.  Even the event which seems bad may not be bad after all. Now compare a person who recently lost his leg in an accident with a person who won a million dollar lottery. After a year, handicapped person may be  much happier or better off compared to other.

God’s Mind : Some people suffer from “God complex” and think that they know everything and have understanding of how things work. They are so used to showing confidence about something. They also start believing in the same. If we approach things with”trial and error”, rather than “knowing everything”, we will be better off. We should start accepting failure and try to improve from our mistakes. Based on the mess all around us, it looks like even  God does not have this complex  and works with trial and error.
